When it comes to freezing cooked asparagus, it’s really simple and straightforward. Since it’s already cooked, you won’t need to worry about blanching the asparagus first.
Below are the steps to freezing cooked asparagus:
Step 1: Allow to Cool Down
After the asparagus is cooked, allow it to cool down to room temperature. It should be cooled enough ready to be stored in the freezer in about 3o minutes.
Make sure to never freeze the asparagus while it’s still warm. Doing so will cause condensation which will eventually destroy the vegetable during freezing.
Also, the heat generated from the asparagus will cause all the other foods around them to prematurely thaw.
Step 2: Place In Storage Bag
Once the asparagus is cooled, transfer them to a freezer bag. If there is juice from the vegetable, pour that into the bag as well. Then press on the bag to remove any excess air before sealing it.
Besides freezer bags, you can also use an airtight container. Just make sure the lid doesn’t have any tears or cuts on the seal. Then secure the lid to the container tight.
Step 3: Label and Freeze
Wite a marker, write the date of freezing and the content on the freezer bag or airtight container. This will help you remember when you store the cooked asparagus and when to use it.
